I am Mumbai

Awakening Mumbai on the Web
Mumbai local

Mumbai a small world in itself is home for about 14.8 million people. It has an area of about 437.7 Sq.Km which shelters the ever increasing population. This dream city gets it's name from The Goddess 'Mumbadevi'. The kolis(fishermen) are the original inhabitants.

The Goddess of the fishermen is
'Mumba Aai' which gives the city it's name. The city is a union of seven small islands naming Mahim, Colaba, Small Colaba , Mazgaon, Worli, Parel and Matunga.

The famous geologist
Pitolami in 150 A.D. discovered Mumbai. During the period of 273-232B.C. the Mauryas and during the period of 810-1260B.C. Shilahar ruled in Mumbai. On 23/12/1534 Sultan Bahadur Shah lended Mumbai to the Portugals for the yearly tax of 85 pounds. On the occasion of marriage of British Prince Charles with Portugal Princess Cathrine Briganza, Mumbai was gifted to the British King on 23/06/1661.

Today
Mumbai is the industrial and economic capital of India. This colorful city is a blend of different cultures depicting the unity in diversity. The beautiful Arabian sea washes the shores of this splendid city. If at all you are falling from a train and you see many hands trying to help you out.....

Guess what....???? You are in Mumbai.

This is a site on general information about Mumbai useful in day-to-day life and awareness among the masses.

We all love our city but are we aware that we have been so ignorant and selfish in our behavior.
I have taken a small step in making the masses aware of their rights and to bring into light our city's plight.

I would really like, if you all would lend a helping hand and make our city a better place to live in.
Please share your views and do let me know if you have some information to be shared with our fellow beings.
